20 litas banknote
(issued 2001)

Front.On the right side of the banknote is the portrait of Maironis (Prelate Jonas Maciulis (1862–1932)), a famous Lithuanian poet and bard of the Lithuanian national rebirth. At the top is the inscription LIETUVOS BANKAS (BANK OF LITHUANIA), and at the bottom of the banknote DVIDESIMT LITU (TWENTY LITAS). On the left of the portrait is the year of issue 2001, the signature of the Chairman of the Board of the Bank of Lithuania and the inscription LIETUVOS BANKO VALDYBOS PIRMININKAS (CHAIRMAN OF THE BOARD OF THE BANK OF LITHUANIA). The front of the banknote bears brown, violet, light brown and blue colours.

Back.The Statue of Liberty against the background of Vytautas Magnus Museum of War History and Belfry. At the bottom of the banknote is the inscription DVIDESIMT LITU (TWENTY LITAS). The back of the banknote bears violet, yellow and light blue colours.

Size of the note: 135mmx65 mm. The designer of the banknote is Giedrius Jonaitis.

Notable security features of the banknote:

Watermark – a multi-tonal portrait of Maironis visible when the note is held up to the light.   Microperforation of the denomination numeral 20 (an outline of the denomination numeral made up of tiny holes) visible when the note is held up to the light. On both sides of the banknote, the microperforated are does not contain punched out paper fragments that could be distinguished by touch.   See-through feature, am image of a book and a stylus, front to back in perfect register.   Latent image (denomination numeral 20) on the right side of the top ornamental band visible when the note is tilted towards the light an acute angle.   A glossy windowed security thread with the repeated microtext 20 LTL. When the banknote is held up to the light, the full length of the thread is visible.
