The following worn and damaged currency is acceptable for payments and settlements:

  1. Soiled (but not with special inks used for the protection against theft), written-on, painted, torn, torn apart or otherwise damaged banknotes;
  2. Banknotes with at least three fourths of the remaining area and one serial and one number inscription;
  3. Deformed and damaged coins with a recognisable state emblem of the Republic of Lithuania and denomination numeral.

Worn currency or that containing damages listed in points 1–3 above are exchangeable at the Bank of Lithuania and commercial banks free of charge.

The following damaged currency is not acceptable for payments and settlements but is exchangeable at the Bank of Lithuania and commercial banks free of charge:

  1. Banknotes with less than three fourths but more than one half of the remaining area, and one serial and one number inscription;
  2. Banknotes with one half of the remaining area with a watermark, and one serial and one number inscription;
  3. Banknotes with less than one half of the remaining area, with remaining both serial and number inscriptions, denomination numeral and a watermark.

The following currency is neither acceptable or exchangeable for payments and settlements:

  1. Those raising doubts about their genuineness;
  2. Banknotes soiled with special inks used for the protection against theft. For more information see >>

In cases when the acceptability of currency is doubtful, the Bank of Lithuania accepts it for examination; commercial banks are instructed to accept such currency and send it to the Bank of Lithuania according to the established procedure.
